Dad is waiting at the gate to their property, wearing the same shirt he’s worn every day– except Christmas, weddings and trips to his masonic lodge– for the last decade. He bought a dozen in a sale and will wear them until they literally fall apart. They appear to have some kind of magic property and like cockroaches will probably outlast us all.

It looks like something out of a fairytale. But not one of the nice modern ones. It looks like the kind of place where children’s nightmares come true, where witches boil the bones of the naughty kids who cross their paths.

My Review:

 

This was a fun, twisty, unpredictable, and entertaining read that took some concentration due to the large cast of characters involved. I worried I might need to start a notebook to keep them straight, but thankfully, they were each deliciously odd and uniquely quirky, so I didn’t need to bust out the pen and paper. I’ve read several of her slaying tales and have reveled in each one. Her writing style is engaging, cleverly snarky, dark, and wryly amusing, which keeps Sarah Bonner at the top of my total jam list.
