Skylar has always stood in the background, watching his best friend begin a life with the woman he fell in love with until he can no longer keep a distance.
Right when Mira thinks her life is back on track it spirals out of control. What if everything you thought you knew was nothing more than a mirage?
Danny Thomas was never the boy who got the girl. All through high school, he sat in the back seat and watched his best friend, Skylar McBride, in all his crowning glory. The girls always flocked to Skylar, leaving Danny the third wheel.
Everything changes the first day of college, when Danny meets Mira Anderson and she completely steals his heart. She’s the only girl that ever chose Danny.
Mira’s broken and battered. She’s fighting to put herself back together while her heart is trying to forget. Can she continue moving forward with one man while in love with another?
Skylar’s wrestling demons he never imagined in his wildest dreams. The girl he’s been in love with for years finally has feelings for him. There’s only one problem: her heart might lie somewhere else. How long until his will power shatters?
Who will seize Mira’s heart and never let go? Will these feelings ever go away or will they be an AWAKENING?
Kylee Anderson has all the qualities any man would want; sexy, fun, witty, intelligent and most importantly, she never wants a commitment.
She’s gone the last four years getting exactly what she wants out of life: She’s continued a friendship with her oldest friend in the world, built a new bond with Skylar and Danny, and had the full college experience.
After graduation, Kylee starts looking for a job where she meets Jacoby Roberts, CEO of the largest real estate development company in Ann Arbor. Just when she thought she was falling for Jacoby and his charm, she was hit with the reality of why it could never be. Not just with him, but with anyone.
Determined to continue down the path of sex without titles, Jacoby will try to break through her shell and win her heart. There’s only one problem; Kylee isn’t that easy to win over. She’s witnessed what happens when you let love interfere with sex, and she’s vowed to never be in that position.
Will Jacoby be able to secure a place in her heart? Will Kylee allow herself to feel the things she’s fighting, or will she keep living behind a façade?
Epiphany, the final installment of The Destined Series, continues the stories of four best friends from college who are making decisions that will set the course for the rest of their lives.
Mira and Skylar have had their share of painful pasts, troubled presents and an unknown future. When Skylar finds himself getting more involved with his MC, it puts strain on his relationship with Mira, who quickly learns that trust isn’t as easily given as she would have thought. Between a career that isn’t what he thought it would be and dealing with the fall out with Mira and Skylar’s relationship, he struggles to move forward until the job offer of his dreams lands directly in his lap. Will he jump at the opportunity or fight for the love he’s lost?
Kylee’s recent success has caused Jacoby to feel left out, leaving him resenting her career. When an unexpected turn of events forces them to make a life changing decision, will they be able to make it out unscathed?
This group of friends, this family, are all searching for signs to lead them in the right direction. Will a moment of deja vu be the epiphany needed to move toward the happily ever after they all desire?
Book 1 Mirage:
“My boss is the tri-fecta, sexy, smart and rich. I cannot go there with him.”
“If you’ve never had your hair washed by a lover, you’re missing out. This was a first for me and it might be just as good as sex.”
“The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between sleep and awake, when you don’t know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.”
Book 1.5 Inception
“Her blush has to be one of the most adorable things about her. The girl will make a complete ass out of herself when out in public, but put her in an awkward situation, she instantly turns pink.”
“They say the whole point of dating is like an interview process, to find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.”
“You’re it for me Pea, I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. We’re going to be so disgustingly happy, our friends are going to hate us.”
Book 2 Awakening
“Not many people end up with their first loves. The first person you give your heart to teaches you how to love and how to be in a relationship. A lot of times it’s to prepare you for when you meet the one who’s going to steal yours forever.”
“This is as real as anything else. You’re not going to wake up tomorrow and have to start all over. This is not Groundhog Day.”
“I’m going to live everyday to make you smile.”
“Sky. I didn’t chose you, my heart did.”
“It’s Skylar’s turn to freak out and he’s back peddling like an Olympic cyclist, but in reverse.”
“Love really does hurt, but it hurts so damn good.”
Book 3 – Facade
“I point to Mira, who’s frantically kissing Skylar like he’s getting ready to board a space shuttle destined to save the world from falling asteroids.”
“If having a boyfriend means being hot for him at all hours of the day, I’m pissed I didn’t sign up sooner.”
“My heart’s beating so quickly, I can feel it in my fingertips.”
“Someone very wise told me, your spouse will disappoint you, your kids will eventually leave you and your parents will eventually die; the only thing you can do in life is to do what makes you happy… let me make you happy.”
“Licking my lips in appreciation, Jacoby turns around and catches me red-handed, staring at him like he’s a Thanksgiving turkey and I’m a ravenous Pilgrim.”
Book 4 – Epiphany
“You tell me the things that are non-negotiable and I’ll make sure to never ever go against them. Mira, I promise you on everything that I love, I’ll never ruin us. Ever.”
“I do hope that one day I’ll be able to build up some kind of immunity to that sly smile that tells me he’s thinking something dirty.”
“‘I want you because you’re smart.’ I place a kiss to her forehead. ‘Loving.’ A kiss to both eyelids. ‘Beautiful.’ A kiss to the tip of her nose. ‘And most importantly – because if I don’t marry you, I’ll die. You’re my breath, my heartbeat and my soul.’”
“I know more than ever that the other half of my soul lives inside of you and that’s exactly where it belongs.”
“This baby is already pissing me off. She better be super cute and not cry all the time.”
This series marks my first experience with Ashely Suzanne’s body of work, which is actually quite an impressive list according to Goodreads. I powered through 901 pages to bring you this review – oh the sacrifices I make for my followers! Thanks to the book goddesses above – I enjoyed every page. Surprise – even the angsty ones. This series is truly unique and based on an extremely clever premise. I was entertained throughout, adored this sweet group of friends, and found myself generally engrossed by their well detailed and compelling love stories. The writing was easy to follow, humorous, emotive, evocative, and heart squeezing. I experienced the full range of feels from their excitement of new love, despair of loss, anxiety of uncertainty and confusion, personal pain from tragedy and feelings of betrayal, and then there was their exploding hearts full of elation. Epiphany brings the story to a sweet and satisfying conclusion but it made me work for it. Strap yourself down and prepare to ride the full carnival mid-way of emotions with lots of humor, fun banter, angst, drama, conflict, steam, despair, tragedy, and surprises. But – is it really the conclusion? I thought it was… until I noticed mention of Book 5 in a listing at the end – oh happy day as I was already feeling greedy and wanting more!
