Talk To Me, Public Lives Part 1

by Clare James

*Caution: This story contains explicit sex scenes with an alpha hockey player … who gives an entirely new meaning to the term Body Checking. *

Finn Daley took the world by storm two years ago when he was drafted by the NHL. The young, handsome, high-scoring player quickly became a fan favorite. He had everything going for him: fame, fortune, a promising career, and his pick of women. But when he made an abrupt exit from the NHL last spring, everything changed and he’s been in hiding ever since.

Casey Scott plans to find out why.

After interning for free all summer at the top television station in the Twin Cities, Casey lands an on-air gig. Trouble is, the new role is Sports Girl—which means reporting from local bars and tailgating parties to create excitement for the hometown heroes. All while wearing tiny team jerseys that are so tight they leave little to the imagination.

But she has a plan. Uncover the biggest sports mystery of the decade, and she’ll be on her way. Question is, how far will she go to get the story?

Just Listen

Just Listen Public Lives, Part 2

Clare James

The highly anticipated conclusion to Finn and Casey’s steamy story in the Public Lives Series by Clare James.

*Caution: Just Listen contains explicit sex scenes between an alpha hockey player trying to begin a new life and an ambitious reporter who will do just about anything to get her story … Conflict of Interest doesn’t even begin to describe the trouble these two get into.*

Aspiring reporter Casey Scott knows it was unethical to get involved with retired hockey star, Finn Daley, but she did it anyway. Happily. She also knows that she should tell him about her assignment, but she can’t seem to do it. No matter how many times she tries. With Finn, Casey experiences intimacy, pleasure, pain, comfort, and a strange sort of stability. Things she’s not yet willing to give up.

But when she finally uncovers his secret, the decision she has to make is harder than she ever imagined.

For Finn, his past, present, and future are colliding. And when he discovers the truth about the woman he’s grown to love, and the one he let get away, his world comes shattering down around him. With everything on the line, there’s only one person who can help. But is it too late?

Just Listen is the gripping conclusion of Finn and Casey’s story that began in Talk to Me.

Favorite Quotes:

Book 1 – Talk To Me

“I have a thing for cowboys, I’m ashamed to say.  Not sure if it was from watching The Dukes of Hazzard reruns as a kid or Mom’s love of country music, but honestly, if I spent time around any man with a southern accent and cowboy boots?  My IQ dropped thirty points.”

“I am fairly sure Casey was designed to fit into my arms.  She was toned, but still soft.  Brilliant, but still innocent.  Sweet, but spunky as hell.  She was made up of the most perfect contradictions.”

Book 2 – Just Listen

“Her voice was so annoying and high-pitched, I was waiting for the town dogs to come running in at any moment.”

My Review:

Cliffhangers are a dirty trick, and I would be furiously stomping my little feet at the end of Talk To Me if I hadn’t already downloaded the second book loaded on my precious kindle.  I was hooked on this story and had to know what happened.  I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy these books, even mid-way through the first book.  The female lead was hard for me to care for as she was obnoxious, and doing somewhat awful and selfish.  She was taking advantage, manipulating, using, and planning to betray someone who had been good to her, just to advance her career.  Yet I hoped/felt she was going to be redeemed, as she had a sense of guilt about her actions – yet she didn’t stop.  For his sake, I was desperately wanting her to be a better person.  And just like her, I was equally desperate to learn his big secret.

Just Listen  and Talk to Me were both quick and steamy reads that kept me guessing and more than a bit anxious until the very end.  The story squeezed my heart and although I continued to have a love/hate relationship with the leading lady to near the last page, I felt satisfied by the conclusion.  I was enjoying the characters by the end, something that I totally did not expect to happen.  This series was smartly written and laced with humorous, rueful, and insightful inner musings.
