Title: What the Heart Wants
Series: Good Gods #2.5 (Short Story)
Author: Staci Hart
Genre: Mythology – Contemporary Romance
Love wasn’t an option, until he met her.
It’s 1984, and Tanaka Katsu is paving his way in the Yakuza. His marriage to Yuki was a business deal, and one that he has paid for with his happiness.
Aphrodite can’t stand that he’s so miserable, and Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy, has a strong hold on Yuki, who will do whatever it takes to get what she believes is hers. Aphrodite won’t sit by and watch Katsu’s life slip away with no chance at love, so when he takes a trip to Vegas, she’ll introduce him to his match.
Kim never thought she’d be in the situation like the one that’s coming her way, but what the heart wants is a powerful thing, and one that’s impossible to walk away from.
“It’s like your favorite pastime. Make Zeus fuck around. Watch Hera go bananas. Rinse. Repeat.“
After reading Snake in the Grass, I was craving for more Kim and Katsu and guess what…Staci Hart just gave us exactly that! Although a short story, What the Heart Wants delivered an explosive and heart-rending yet beautiful and pure love story.
Katsu, married to Yuki through an arrangement, was unhappy and Dita, being the goddess of love, could not stand seeing him miserable anymore so she sent some happiness and love his way through a “chance encounter” with Kim. Love sparked and soon both were willing to do whatever it took and fought to keep their love.
Hera, being the goddess of marriage and monogamy, did everything she could to protect Katsu’s marriage even if it mean using dirty tricks by manipulating Yuki in getting her crazy on and taking advantage of her possessiveness.
An arranged marriage, stolen moments and forbidden love between a Yakuza and a Vegas showgirl, and throw in two goddesses who will do everything in their power to either break them apart or keep them together, hands down What the Heart Wants is my favorite book in the series so far. It’s amazing how far people are willing to go to get what the heart wants.
