Character Interview: Ethan from ‘ReVamped’

For today’s character interview, we are joined by Ethan from Ada Adams‘ book, ReVamped. Welcome to Books and Bindings!
Ethan: Thanks for inviting me to hang out with you!

Books and Bindings: To start things off, can you tell us more about the book?
Ethan: ReVamped is a story about a nineteen-year-old vampire girl named Dawn. She’s the Vampire President’s daughter and a very skilled fighter. Despite her training, her father had kept her confined to the presidential estate since birth. At the beginning of the book, she finally manages to convince him to send her on her very first mission–a task to revamp four vampire misfits into guardians of a small town of Angel Creek. When she arrives, it quickly becomes evident that the task will be far from easy. Her world turns upside down and she uncovers some dark secrets about her past.

Books and Bindings: Being a vampire story, what makes it different from any of the other?
Ethan: “ReVamped” takes a more lighthearted approach to the genre than most vampire novels. Humans are also aware of the existence of vampires and they’re enthralled by them. As well, there aresome twists in the story that go against basic vampire myths.

Books and Bindings: Can you tell us more about yourself? Where do you fit in the story?
Ethan: Unlike the rest of the characters in the story, I’m a human. I’m a recent transplant to Angel Creek. Dawn and I meet at a diner where I’m currently working and become fast friends. She’s definitely a unique girl and very easy to get along with!

Books and Bindings: How was it like growing up with your mother working all the time and your father… well, being your father?
Ethan: It wasn’t easy. I chose not to attend college in order to stay around and help my mom. After everything that happened with my father, things were really tough for us.

Books and Bindings: Even after knowing your mother’s hatred towards vampires, what made you like Dawn? How would you describe your feelings for her?
Ethan: Dawn caught my attention right away because there was something very special about her. Her naïveté and innocence mixes with extreme strength and confidence to create a very unique personality. Sometimes she’s surprisingly transparent about her feelings, but she can also hide her emotions like a trained warrior. She’s smart and extremely talented, but she also hasn’t had the chance to experience a full life–or rather, a normal teenage. Watching her grow and being alongside for her journey of self-discovery is fascinating.

Books and Bindings: How do you think Ada came up with the idea of you as a character?
Ethan: Originally, back when “ReVamped” was a TV show script, I was a ruthless ex-military assassin hired by a certain villain to capture Dawn. I guess you could say that I wasn’t the “nice guy” many readers describe when they talk about me. I even had some very unbecoming stalker-ish tendencies. Thankfully, both the stalker and the assassin part were changed as my character was redeveloped for the novel.

Books and Bindings: How do you like your part in the book being the only human in the group?
Ethan: To be perfectly honest, I sometimes resent being weaker than the rest of the vampires. No matter how much I train, my speed and strength can’t match any vampire’s.

Books and Bindings: Without giving any away, how do you see yourself in the future? Do you know if you will still be in ReAwakened?
Ethan: I am in “ReAwakened”. My page time pales in comparison to that of Sebastian and Razor. Certain readers have begged Ada for more, which made me pretty happy. I can’t reveal my role in “ReBorn” yet without giving anything away.

Hemsworth borthers

Books and Bindings: If they make a movie about the book, who would you want to play as you and why?

Ethan: I guess I wouldn’t mind being played by one of the Hemsworth brothers. They seem pretty cool.

Books and Bindings: Is there anything else you’d like your readers to know? Do you have a message for them before they read about your life?
Ethan: Thank you for supporting Angel Creek and our cast of misfit characters. We’re so grateful that you choose to spend time with us! I can’t wait to see you in “ReBorn”.

Well, that about wraps it up. Thank you so much, Ethan, for stopping by.
: Thanks for having me! It was nice chatting with you.

A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.
