Booking Through Thursday: Dream Cast 22

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme, hosted by btt2, about (mostly) books and reading.

Question for the week: And while we’re thinking about books converted to tv/movies. Do you ever sit and wonder who could be cast as your favorite characters? (Please feel free to give examples!)

What actors do you think have done particularly excellent jobs with some of your favorite characters?

Every time I read a new book and get to know new characters, I think about how they would look like. I try to imagine them as close to how the author described them and I more often than not, I have a real person in my head (usually someone I know or have seen somewhere before). I very rarely think about who could be cast as my favorite characters just because I don’t know that many movie stars.

Although, I can name a few that I thought did an excellent job portraying my favorite characters. First one that I thought of when I read the question was Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon from Dan Brown‘s Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. Then there’s Emma Watson as Hermione from J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter series and as Sam from Stephen Chbosky‘s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also loved Mark Wahlberg as Jack Salmon and Stanley Tucci as George Harvey from Alice Sebold‘s The Lovely Bones – they were very convincing. I could go on forever with this list so I’ll leave you with the latest addition – Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby from F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s The Great Gatsby. I just watched it a few days ago and I thought he was magnificent! I can’t think of any other person to cast as Jay Gatsby other than Leo. He did an awesome job!

POST the link to your own Booking Through Thursday on the comments below or just post your actual answer if you want.

I didn’t even think of Tom Hanks! He was great in both of those movies. I did mention all of the Harry Potter characters. I haven’t seen the Great Gatsby yet, but I can see Leonardo DiCaprio playing the part perfectly.

Leo and Tom are definitely on my top ten favorite actors! They’re very versatile and powerful actors. And The Great Gatsby was surprisingly awesome – I loved the theatrics and the style they used to shoot the movie. I won’t say more, just watch, ha ha!

I plan on watching the Great Gatsby. I’ve read the book several times. 🙂

I had to drive three hours to get to the city to watch it ( I live in the boonies for work) but it was so worth it! 🙂

I forgot to mention Robert Downy, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes both for the movie and the series. Oh and Zachary Quinto as Spock in the latest Star Trek movies.

Great choices. Seems Leo is a big favorite in the role of Jay Gatsby. I guess I’ll have to break down and watch that movie at some point.

Emma Watson was not exactly how I imagined Hermione but now I’ve almost forgotten that 🙂 I think the whole cast in the HP movies was very good. My BTT

Imagining them as close to how the author describe them adds to the pleasure factor of the book. With you on The Great Gatsby. Leonardo di Caprio is sooo Jay Gatsby.

He really was. I believed he was when I was watching it. He wasn’t Leo anymore, he was Jay Gatsby!

      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
