But she doesn’t plan on bonding with the old ladies, going after the village bad boy and trying to persuade Elsie not to become a Nun.Soon she’s questioning who her real friends are and whether her old life is one she wants to return to.

“I’ve never trusted religion; all that stuff about heaven and hell. It always sounds like they’re threatening you, and I swear half the people attending church are only there because they’re terrified they’ll be struck down otherwise.”
“’No,’ I say as sexily as I can. I attempt a giggle, but it comes out more as a fog horn noise. Sexy. Real sexy, Rose. This is so much easier when I’m drunk.”
“God, he’s hot. He’s making me stupid.”
I really wish the church grave yard wasn’t across the road from the pub. Visions of a zombie Michael Jackson emerging from it and forcing me to dance clouds my head.”
“I’m stunned into silence, my mouth gaping open so wide he can probably see my tonsils.”
“And it’s like my mum always said, be with a man that ruins your lipstick, not your mascara.”
This is one of the funniest books I have read in a very long time, I laughed so much I had to stop reading to wipe my eyes. Ms. Barnard’s writing is refreshing, sassy, crisp, clever, irreverent, self-depreciating, hysterically funny, and also quite moving at times. Beside the tears of laughter, I also had a bit of an ugly cry – she is a crafty one and got me both ways. A fantastic read from across the pond. I learned many new and odd sayings I hope to weave into my conversations like “I am so chuffed,” “playing silly beggar,” “bodge jobbed it,” “being on at me,” and curious less than complimentary words like wally, ta, weable, and slagging. I love learning new ways to be snarky. I enjoyed each quirky character residing in this little village, and would gladly bribe the author to write a complete book spotlighting each one, as I am not wanting to leave them just yet.
In my spare time I enjoy drinking my body weight in tea, indulging in cupcakes the size of my face, drooling over hunks like Jamie Dornan, Ryan Gosling and Leo Dicaprio…oh and my husband of course! I like wearing yoga clothes and reading fitness magazines while I sit on the sofa and eat chocolate. I’m a real fan of the power nap and of course, READING!
I write not to get rich or famous, but because I LOVE writing. Even if one person tells me they enjoyed my book it makes the midnight typing worth it!
