Feeling as though he was dreaming, Sean stood in the middle of the woods not ten feet from Prim and admired her strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes, full breasts, the slight curve of her hips, the ethereal-looking gown, and her pale skin. He could almost envision the outline of wings behind her.
“Once upon a time, there was a noble knight,” Prim began softly. “He carried the weight of the kingdom on his shoulders but was glad to do so. Yet, he longed for someone to take care of him on those rare occasions when he allowed it.”
Sean stood mute and still. He had always been the one to tell the fairy stories to his sister and parents when he’d been younger and wanted very much to have Prim tell him this particular one. He had no idea where it would lead or end.
“One cold, clear evening, the knight was returning to his lodgings after helping those in need. An anonymous note directed him to follow a trail of rose petals. He did and eventually came across a pixie waiting for him on the path.” Prim slowly moved towards him and said, “The knight was enamored of the pixie, although the pixie wasn’t quite sure why. Still, she could tell that the knight wanted her, and she wanted him.”
Sean could clearly see the top of her dress puckering under the pressure of her hardened nipples. He wanted more than anything to take the pink buds underneath in his mouth and warm them with his hot breath, his lips, and his tongue. He felt like he was going to explode any moment but refused to surrender to his body’s reaction to this fantasy Prim was creating for him.
“What the pixie didn’t know was that the love of the knight would set her free and allow her to transform into a fairy princess. Although she continued to have doubts about where she had come from and where she was going, she decided that the knight was wise and had the ability to see her for what she truly was. She, in turn, had the ability to see the knight for what he was and to give him what he needed.”
“What was the knight?”
“A gift from God to the world.”
“And what did he need?”
“To let go of his burdens when possible.”
“And what did the pixie want from the knight?”
“To be loved unconditionally.” Slipping her arms around his neck, Prim pressed herself against him and murmured, “She wanted understanding, reassurance, and to have the knight inside of her.”
“Kenny and I may be slow, but we’re not stupid.”
“She kissed him and murmured, ‘I love this dress, and I’m glad you love it too. But it’s a dress. If it gets destroyed because of what we do while I’m wearing it, then I won’t regret it’.”
“Mom and Dad were ready to call someone with bloodhounds to look for you. There were convinced that bloodhounds were the only way we’d find you. I guess they’ve watched a lot of crime shows as well as family shows and sitcoms.”
“No one should have to go through life feeling inadequate because of what she was denied by birth or circumstance.”
“I’m a pretty pixie. Nobody is going to break my wings.”
This book is not at all what I expected, it is a conundrum. It is considerably detailed, yet it does so succinctly. It is written in a simple and straightforward manner, yet is quite profound and moved me to tears several times. It started off rather slow and I wondered if I had stumbled upon a Christian Romance more suited to my mother’s Sunday School book club… but then it wasn’t. Despite the slow start, the last half of the book was incredibly eventful. It was a gentle and sweet love story with an innocent and naïve virgin as a main character, yet there was also suspense, rape, violence, mental health and developmental issues, murder, robbery, deception, child abuse and neglect, alcoholism, generations of secrets, religious zealots, physical altercations, deaths, and considerable oddity. The small-town characters are charmingly quirky and odd, some were more disturbingly so. Two are developmentally delayed and several are mentally unstable. While I am typically averse to frequent religious tilting and recitations, I didn’t mind it as much in this tale. I wasn’t sure who was going to blow their lid first, and it wasn’t who I expected at all. And despite one characters aversion to touch and fearfulness of anything sexual, the sensual scenes were deliciously steamy and stole my breath. Like I said, a conundrum… and I loved it.
