“I just want to find this said love-of-a-lifetime crap everyone raves about. I’ve watched those sappy movies. Seen how Chrissy gushes over all these said fuzzy feelings she experiences when it comes to love, and sadly, I’ve never felt that. I can’t relate when someone speaks of magical tingles and flutters. I mean, that all sounds like just plain old goosebumps and gas pains to me.”
“If my vagina had hands, it would hold out her plate asking for seconds. Thankfully, seconds is what he plans on giving me.”
“Okay I’m done. Toast. And burnt toast for that matter – can’t take the heat, so I burn. I don’t have a smooth comeback or a practiced one-liner. Clearly, I’m losing my touch.”
“You are the color in my life. You give me a reason to create art.”
“Well I’m ninety-nine percent sure. I’ve never been in love before so I can’t be sure. But I feel really weird and right now I don’t know whether I want to cry, possibly laugh, or most importantly, have really really rough sex with you against the storage cabinet.”
“I fib because in some countries flu and three day hangovers probably mean the same things.”
J.D. Hollyfield has magic. I have read four of her books now and every one of them has been solid gold. Smartly written, well-paced, relevant, and painfully insightful in a snarky and fun – yet heart squeezing manner. Her books are cleverly humorous and breath-stealing with steamy goodness. Oh yeah – she has it going on. Her characters are likable, even when they shouldn’t be – like with rich, beautiful, and successful divas. Shocking – I know! But we get to see the human side of the diva – with the personal humiliations, embarrassing adventures, flying vibrators, dates with transformer sheets in their parents’ house, – yeah – she went there… things I don’t expect would happen to a beautiful diva, but, maybe they do… and I loved it. Using a dual POV, we get inside the diva’s head and find out, she is smart, full of denial as well as fear and snarky humor. And while she has enjoyed her singledom party-girl lifestyle and expensive shoes – she finds herself feeling dissatisfied and empty now that her only friend has found love. She knows she is successful, yet is unfulfilled. Been there, done that, sooo get it. But I could never have conjured these wonderful words and put it all together in such a fun and entertaining package. Ms. Hollyfield has mad skills. She stays near the top of my favorites list… her divas have earned it.
