Book Blogger Hop: Book Towers 16

Weeklies Book Blogger HopThe Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer at Crazy For Books in March 2010 and ended in December 2012. Billy at Rambling of a Coffee Addicted Writer didn’t want it to end and took over in February 2013, lucky for us. The hop starts every Friday and ends on Thursdays the following week with weekly prompts. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

For This Week:

“When you receive new books in the mail, do the older ones get moved to the bottom of your list or do go strictly “by the book” and keep your list with older books first and then the new ones?”

Whenever I get new books from the mail or even books I buy from bookstores, I stack them on top of an ongoing pile surrounding my couch. If I get a high enough tower of new books, I start a new stack. I have two full bookshelves already so I have nowhere else to put them until I get another bookshelf, which I can’t really afford right now.

Scotty used to complain about the piles of books surrounding me because I have to tiptoe around and jump over piles of books just to try to get out of my little area in the living room trying to avoid knocking my book towers over. He’s used to it now and he just smiles and shakes his head when he sees me struggling to get out of my side of the couch.

As for the order, I really don’t care much about the order of which I got the books. I just pick up any book from my pile that I feel like reading and it doesn’t matter whether I got that a long time ago or just recently. Of course this is not including the books I receive for review, which I usually read as soon as I can.

For The Readers: Do you put your new books in the bookshelf as soon as you get them or do you have the same tower-piling method that I have? Do you know any tiptoeing/jumping techniques you can teach me that you do yourself to when trying to walk around your towers of books? Post the link to your own Book Blogger Hop for this week or just share your thoughts below.

When I receive new books, I put them on my shelves. I have still 2 shelves left to fill, so that’s great, but all my unread books are just mixed with my read books, which is sometimes confusing.

I can totally see that happening. Good thing I have GoodReads to remind me what I’ve read and haven’t read yet or if it’s something I’d want to reread. 🙂

My books only make it to shelves after I have read them. They usually end up in a stack against the wall, within reach of my desk. I read them in no particular order really, I kind of read the backs and decide what I am in the mood for right at that moment. I also like to read them one at a time. I hate having two or three started at once, which I have tried for review purposes and it just doesn’t work for me.

I tried reading a couple at the same time and it didn’t work for me either. I usually finish a book within three day, one sitting if it’s a really good book and I’m just hooked, and starting more than one book at a time only made me confused and it took me to read both longer.

Great post! I don’t really read mine in any order either, unless for review and have a deadline. My fiance has gotten quite used to piles of books around the house as well. We have 3 bookshelves that are completely packed, so everything else is piled on the floor for now. I have another shelf that just needs to get put together and hopefully I can do that soon! (:

That’s what I need is more shelves. I have the space for a few more shelves. 🙂 I just don’t have the actual shelves yet. Someday. 😀

🙂 sounds like a house I would feel very happy in… lots of large piles of books surrounding the sofa.

I do have an order of reading. Stop by my post for my full answer.

As for your question about where your books are until they are shelved, this is what I do. I leave them on a bench next to my computer and mark the date of receipt on the flyer inside the book from the publisher or author or on a post it note until I add them to my Mailbox Monday post for the week. After they are listed on my Mailbox Monday post, they go on a special shelf in order of when they are to be read.

    ENJOY your weekend.

    Happy Hopping!!

You seem to be quite organized. I wish I was more organized then my stacks wouldn’t be in such a mess. 😛

LOL! That is too funny. Sorry for laughing but dang…I have a pile/tower in the corner out of the way. I read whatever moves me at the moment and I am not taking anymore books for review. Great answer!! 😀
